I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This is one of my favorite times of year because Thanksgiving is a reminder that even in the toughest of times, we all have something in our lives to be thankful for. It’s also a time when we think about how we can support others — in part due to the success of Giving Tuesday — a national day of giving, that fits perfectly with the mission of the Jewish Alliance.
Every day the Alliance is focused on how we create a more vibrant, thriving Jewish community for all Rhode Islanders. In the last year we’ve done things to lift up the joy in our community, Jewish Culture Fest being a notable example. And we have brought people together to reflect on some of our darkest moments, like the evening of remembrance we held on the anniversary of October 7. Those are the big things, but every day, the Alliance is doing things to move our community forward.
Each day, we make sure people in need have the support to get out of crisis. We ensure that seniors have a place to socialize and get a warm meal together. We make sure that our youngest community members have excellent childcare and learning opportunities. We make sure our college students experience vibrant Jewish life on campus. And we make sure all Jewish institutions have what they need to keep community members safe. This is just a small fraction of the important work that our team does each day to support the community.
This work happens because of the generosity of our community. As we approach Giving Tuesday next week, I hope you will consider making an end-of-year gift to the Alliance to support this important work. Recently, our Board member, Neil Steinberg published a commentary in the Providence Journal titled, Those of us Who Can Need to Give More. You can read Neil’s full commentary here—please note, the article is behind a paywall.
“Whether you can give $10, $100, $1,000 or much more, due to cost increases, the amount we all gave four years ago does not cover the same needs today,” Neil said. As a nonprofit leader myself, I can tell you that the needs continue to increase, and we need your support to meet them. I’m grateful to all of you who make a gift to the Alliance, and I encourage everyone to make a gift to support all the important work that happens in this community each day. It’s critical work, and it can only happen with your support.
Until next time, I wish you a safe, peaceful, and joyous Shabbat.
Shabbat Shalom,
Adam Greenman
