The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island shares in mourning the death of Pope Francis, a good friend to the Jewish community and those of many faith traditions.

Pope Francis repeatedly condemned antisemitism as a "sin" and reiterated his belief that we are siblings in faith. He also lived out this belief in fraternity in faith through his life of service.

Pope Francis was dear friends with Abraham Skorka, the Chief Rabbi of Argentina, and the two coauthored the insightful book "On Heaven and Earth." They shared in decades of dialogue about matters of faith, life, and leadership and modeled the best of friendship between our communities.

Pope Francis will be remembered with love for his tireless work to expand upon "Nostra Aetate," the landmark document which transformed Catholic-Jewish relations 60 years ago. His work to build bridges cannot be overstated. May we build upon this remarkable legacy through collaboration between our communities.

May the memory of Pope Francis ever be a blessing.
