When school is out, J-Space is the place to be!

J-Space Afterschool is a licensed enrichment program of the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island offered at the Dwares JCC for children in grades K-5. Our goal is to provide children with a safe and nurturing environment focused on academics, social skills, sports, arts, and fun! This year, we have an exciting line-up with different offerings each day to provide kids with a full schedule of opportunities.

Transition Care 
Ages: 5 – 11  
Transition Care is a flexible after-school option to complement our enrichment classes offered at the Dwares JCC.  We will meet your child at the bus stop or in the lobby.  From there they will enjoy a healthy snack and quiet activities before being escorted to their class.  We will then pick up your child from the class for continued activities until a parent is able to arrive.  Transition Care is not available on days when classes do not meet. 

Mondays, 3:00 – 4:00pm and 5:00 – 5:30pm

S.T.E.M. Explorers
Grades K-3

Become a S.T.E.M. Explorer (formerly Science Explorers) and flex your creativity and problem-solving skills! This engaging and exciting program from Exploration Studios explores the intersection of engineering and art with the G.O.A.T…Rube Goldberg, an engineer, artist, cartoonist, and all-around inspiring human who designed the most roundabout ways to complete a simple task. Our S.T.E.M. Explorers will learn about chain reactions and cause and effect, utilizing various materials to solve a simple problem. Using recyclables, dominoes, strings, marbles, blocks, levers, and everything in between, we will team up to create our very own Rube Goldberg Machine! Each week Explorers will design and build bite-sized Machines, from simple to more complex. There will be problem solving. There will be creativity. There will be happy accidents. And, most of all, there will be fun and laughs!

Science Explorers: Wonderful World of Slime
Grades K-3 

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Slime! Did you know slime is formed through chemical reactions? Plus, it’s just good ole fashion fun! Join your friends at Exploration Studios to explore all the variations of slime you could possibly imagine. Each week, Science Explorers will concoct a different type of slime and watch as the kid-safe ingredients foam, fizzle, and squish, changing from liquid to solid. From butter and crunchy to glitter and exploding, slime-making is a joyful experience which supports brain development, promotes scientific exploration, encourages problem solving, and activates all of your child’s senses!

Art Explorers
Grades K-3

Become an Art Explorer! The inaugural program from Exploration Studios brings art to life by introducing children to artists, art movements, and mediums in an accessible and exciting way. Each week our Art Explorers learn about a new artist and utilize various materials to generate their own special work of art. From Kandinsky’s Abstraction and Seurat’s Pointillism to Goldsworthy’s Earth Art and Picasso’s Cubism, Art Explorers engage with their world in a meaningful way. At the end of the session, each child goes home with a portfolio of pieces they feel proud to share with their family and friends.

As Picasso said, “Every child is an artist!” Art Explorers will develop not only a love of art but also increased confidence, problem solving abilities, critical thinking, communication, collaborative skills, cultural awareness, AND SO MUCH MORE!

Schmooze and Swim  
K-5

End your week socializing with your friends.  Children will have a healthy snack, enjoy quiet activities and splash in the pool.  We will swim from 3:30 to 4:15pm.
